1. Access to Tours
The programme has details of the 14 tours we are offering. We expect the Green Heart, Institute of Translational Medicine and late afternoon Collaborative Teaching Laboratory tours to fill quickly so please book asap if you are interested. Tours can be booked via this link: https://birminghams-labtours.eventbrite.co.uk. (Please note, you must be registered for the Conference in order to attend the Tours.)

If your preferred tour is full, we will run a standby system on the day to fill any cancelled places. Please let us know if you do book but can’t make a tour slot as otherwise you might be depriving someone of a place. The Registration Desk is also the assembly point for tours: please be on time as the tour timings are tight.

2. Joining, Registration and Conference Arrangements
The Conference is at the heart of the main University of Birmingham campus, near to the visual landmark of the Clock Tower. On 2nd April the Registration Desk in the Great Hall Foyer and adjacent Exhibition are open at 09.00 and refreshments will be available. The first keynotes will be promptly at 10.00 in the Elgar Hall, Bramall Building, which is 2-3 minutes’ walk from the Registration area either down a corridor or outside. The luggage area is also on the floor beneath the Elgar Hall so, if you have bags to check, we suggest that you go there before registering. The cloakroom will close after the last tours return, at around 18.00 on both days.

On 3rd April the Registration Desk opens at 08.30 with keynotes starting promptly at 09.30. Refreshments will again be available.

Help us to reduce waste and encourage recyling! Refreshments will be served in recyclable cups with lids. Or if you have your own, please do bring it along to use at the refreshment breaks!

3. Programme and Delegate List
The final version of the Conference Programme is found on the Dropbox folder. You will receive a printed version of the Programme at registration and any last minute changes will be announced in the plenary. Sessions and tours are summarised on p.8-11 of the Programme.

The delegate list (also on Dropbox) - please check your name and affiliation are correct and let us know if any amends are needed. Many of our delegates register late or make substitutions so we don’t produce a printed delegate list. A final list of all attendees will be available as described on p.4 of the Programme.

4. Conference and Awards Dinner – Tuesday 2 April 18.30 hours (drinks), 19.45 hours (dinner)

If you have booked on to attend the Dinner details are: Pre-Drinks Reception (from 18.30) in Café Aroma on the first floor of Staff House, and the Conference and Awards Dinner (seating at 19.45) in the Noble Room on the second floor. The dress code is business smart (not black tie). Dinner has three courses with wine and there will also be a cash bar available until 23.00.  Winners of the S-Lab and UKSPA Awards will be announced between courses. Dinner is at full capacity now. If you are not booked and wish to attend, please check at the registration desk at the venue in case of any last minute cancellations.

A Map can be found here: https://conferences.bham.ac.uk/finding-us/staff-house/

5. Travel
Venue address: The Great Hall & Foyer (Exhibition venue), University of Birmingham
Edgbaston, Birmingham, B15 2TT. A Map can be found here: https://conferences.bham.ac.uk/finding-us/the-great-hall/

The University has its own train station, which is also near the campus bus stops. There are many services to New Street, even in the late evening, and more or less hourly services to Cheltenham and beyond. It is a 5-10 minute walk from there through the campus (and passing cafes) to reach the Great Hall in the Aston Webb Building where the Exhibition and Registration Desk are located. They are also near the brick clock tower which is visible from most Campus locations. When you are at the foot of the clock tower, you will have reached the Aston Webb semicircle of red-brick buildings. The Great Hall is through the large wooden doors beneath the central dome.

The Bramall Building where the keynotes are being held, and luggage stored, is to the left of the Great Hall entrance (as you look at the building).

Parking: Visitors arriving before 18.00 Monday to Friday should park in the University’s North East Car Park on Pritchatts Road, B15 2SA. This costs £2.50 per hour or £7.00 for up to 10 hours, using the RingGo cashless system. Parking here is free of charge after 18.00 Mon-Fri, and on weekends.

Parking is available around the University campus free of charge after 18.00 on weekdays, and all day on weekends. The main access to the campus is via the University’s East Gate, on Edgbaston Park Road.

6. Accommodation
If you still require accommodation our discounted rates at the on-campus Edgbaston Hotel and Lucas House have expired but rooms may still be available – see www.edgbastonparkhotel.com and www.lucashousehotel.com. Otherwise use the standard hotel booking sites such as Expedia or Trip Advisor to find accommodation in the City Centre or around Five Ways (between the University and New Street, with a station). Trains run until the late evening and we will also try to create a taxi pool at the end of Conference proceedings, and the Dinner.

7. Conference Contact
In case of any difficulties on the day/during your attendance, please call the Conference helpline 07531 244208 or visit the Registration Desk situated in the Great Hall Foyer.
