2019 S-Lab Awards Launch

Details of, and application form for, the 2019 Awards and a brochure showing past winners are available here.

2017 Award Winners and Finalists can also be found here

The S-Lab Awards are recognised around the world as the benchmark for good laboratory design, operation and management. See the flyer (foot of the page) for details of previous winners, drawn from shortlists featuring 14 countries. A key aim of the Awards is to create and publicise examples of good practice and innovation through its short list, e.g. by inviting them to present at S-Lab Conferences.

2019 S-LAB AWARD CATEGORIES

The S-Lab Awards are open to any organisation, in any country. They are:

  • STEM Building - recognising new or completely refurbished laboratory-containing buildings in any sector which achieve excellence in scientific work, value for money and sustainability, and which have been commissioned and handed over in the period January 2016 – June 2018. If applications warrant, the category may be sub-divided by discipline and/or by purpose e.g. research, teaching, analytical.
  • Refurbished Laboratories - recognising partial refurbishments of existing buildings for science purposes in any sector which achieve excellence in scientific work, value for money and sustainability, and which have been commissioned and handed over in the period January 2016 – June 2018.

  • Laboratory Improvement - This category recognises all initiatives to improve the operation of existing laboratories, including improvements in laboratory management, processes (e.g. chemical and sample tracking) and skills; better use of equipment and space (e.g. through sharing or innovative products and techniques); and minimising energy and water consumption.

2019 JOINT S-LAB/UKSPA AWARD CATEGORIES

Reflecting the collaboration between S-Lab and the UK Science Park Association for a collaborative Conference at the University of Birmingham on April 2-3 2019 a new joint Award category has been created. It is open to any organisation, in any country. If applications warrant, this category might have two joint winners, one for larger bodies and the other for smaller ones.

  • Laboratory of the Year - this category focuses on the science outcomes, operation, and management of working laboratories (as opposed to their design or refurbishment).

UKSPA also has Location - Setting the Pace and Most Successful Project Awards for its members only.
